As both a birthworker and a body modification fanatic, I’m delighted to talk about the clear intersections of the two, creating a general guide for both piercing clients, and the doulas that serve them. Here I cover how pregnancy can affect existing healed piercings, getting piercings done while pregnant or bodyfeeding, how nipple piercings may or may not affect lactation, and body piercings in the delivery room.

I sat down to write this article with the intent of creating a resource to serve both the greater doula community and our clients alike, consolidating the most contemporary existing knowledges from across the spheres of transgender healthcare. This document is meant to be an introduction and roadmap to future research

I can’t help but to think that we may have overshot it, that some wisdoms were the proverbial baby in the bathwater, that should not have been discarded with everything else.
